In 1987 my partner and I travelled from Cleveland, Ohio, to our new home in Florida by sailboat. We motored, with sails down, through the Erie Canal till we reached the Hudson River, then sailed out into the Atlantic and down the Intercoastal Waterway. The trip took four months. The images in the Voyage Series I (bottom row) and Voyage Series II (top row) are visual equivalents of some of my experiences on this trip. The middle row shows images from my Darwin's Voyage series and represents an imaginary depiction of an account of his discoveries in the Brazilian forest outside of Rio de Janeiro, as recounted in Darwin's Voyage into the Past, Evolution, Nature Library, Time-Life Books, pg. 9..
